I’m a 50 year old German woman who will share her journey of losing weight. First, I made some body measurements: my weight, my BMI, my body fat and my WHR.
A few weeks ago I realized: I am too fat. Too much weight for my little bones. Not that I don’t know about it. But to know and to know are to sides of the same coin.
I decided to make my way public. It has many reason (about this reasons I will speak (write) later.
First, let us see, what we have to work with. This is the list of my body measurements:
The first point was – of course – to use my lonely and dusty scale.
And this was a healing shock. Over 90 kilo (200 lbs)! What the frog!!
This was allways my nightmare: To get really obese. (I was obese the whole time, but you can talk to yourself into thinking that it isn’t soooo much weight.)
Okay. Now we are in a right mess. A pro pos mess: It’s time for more measurements.
With the specs I can now look at my BMI.
It’s a bit difficult to calculate and I am little bit lazy, so I used a calculator. (There are a lot of BMI calculators out there, here is just an example: https://www.smartbmicalculator.com)
The result of the BMI calculator says: Your BMI is 34.6 and that means ‘obesity’. Your ideal weight is about 50 – 65 kg (110 – 140 lbs). Your metabolic rate at rest is 1,388 kcal.
If you want to do it by yourself, here is the formula:
The imperial BMI formula = Weight (LBS) x 703 ÷ Height (Inches²)
The metric BMI formula = Weight (KG) ÷ Height (Metres²)
As you can see, the formula don’t consider your age or gender. So it is more an approximate value. But BMI is anyway controversial, so it doesn’t matter ;-).
As I tried to get as many values as possible, I bought a body fat caliper.
It wasn’t easy to use.
Really not. But funny. 😆
As you can see you have to pinch your skin to measure your fat. But my fat is more under my muscles not directly under the skin, so it was a challenge to measure.
I had to ask my friend. It is really better to do this with a friend (or two or – while you’re at in – make a measurement party 😄)
We tried our best and got a result. But it is a moot question, whether this value is correct. But no problem: The next time we will reproduce the failure and then we have a sign if my fat is more or less. Easypeasy. No reason to be penny-pinching.
The result is 37.6 % and I am thinking this is not enough. Don’t get me wrong, of course these are at least 20 % to much!
But I am feeling more fatty. I think 45 % are more realistic.
My scale also has this body fat function. But I don’t trust it. It is too old and I don’t want too many several values of the same point.
The last point on my list was to measure my circumference, especially my lovely belly. I did it, but then I decided it wasn’t really valid. What when I ate a lot of bloaty food and measure and at another day I haven’t this much air in my belly and think “Uuuh, wow, look how small I am!”? 😁
I remembered about a measurement method which has to do with the relation between belly and hip and after a while googling I found it:
It’s called Waist-Hip-Ratio.
On Wiki I found a lot of Information about: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waist–hip_ratio
It’s really easy to calculate, all you need is to find a table, where you can see what the result is meaning. In the link above you can find one.
Now we have a lot of information about the current situation. That’s fine. I still have to lose weight. 😂
My first YouTube-Video is online right now and I am so fricking excited I cannot breathe.
I have no probs to shout my body measurements out of the world. But my English! Oh, Goddess! What a shame.
But I want to push myself directly outside the comfort zone. I was long enough over there and I know everything here.
So, have fun to see me stammer and stumble, it’s a kind of fun 🙂
The next weeks (and months) I will show you my goals and the way I will go.
See you soon!
